Introduction

This series of Summer Academy programs is offered in partnership with the UGA Department of Computer Science. CSC students are dropped off at the Georgia Center, but spend the majority of their day in the Computer Science building studying two different areas of technology. CSC students may participate in the Legion Pool option when they return to the Georgia Center at 3:30pm. There are additional scholarship opportunities for students enrolling in CSC camps, but space is limited. Call (706) 542-3537 for more information on scholarships.

Programs

CSC: Technology + Art

Introducing the PicoCricket: a tiny computer that makes things spin, light up, and play music. This course will show you how to take Pico technology and turn it into art! Make a musical pickle, a birthday cake that sings when you blow out the candles, and a cat that purrs when you pet it! Students will also use the Scratch program to make 2D animations and games, which can then be controlled by the PicoBoard sensors. Ages 11-15.

CSC: Robots + Animation

Design your own animated stories with Alice software! You'll create characters, design the scenery, craft a plot and write the dialogue. Each student will leave with a movie or interactive game! Once you've mastered Alice, move on to the robot world! Students will build their own LEGO robot and use LEGO MINDSTORMS software to make it perform all kinds of tricks! Ages 11-15.

CSC: Robotics + 3D Animation

Alice is an innovative 3D programming environment that teaches you to create digital animation. You can tell a story, create an interactive game, or produce a video to share on the web. The 3D graphics and the drag-and-drop interface make it easy to learn introductory programming skills. Students will also have the opportunity to build a LEGO NXT robot. Once complete, you can use the LEGO MINDSTORMS software to make your robot complete a maze, perform tasks or compete in a battle! Ages 14-17.
