Human-Computer Interaction

Spring 2004

This course will introduce students to issues in the design, implementation, and evaluation of user interfaces for computer systems. Concepts in human factors, usability, and interface design will be covered, and the effects of human capabilities and limitations on interaction with computer systems will be studied. Students will apply the concepts to the design and implementation of graphical user interfaces. Units on experimental design and statistical analysis and on virtual reality will be included. Java will be used to implement user interfaces in several projects. Thus, the use of the Java language and packages as related to the implementation of user interfaces will be taught as an element of this course. Students should have significant prior experience with Java or with an object-oriented language such as C++.
