Applying to the Computer Science Major

Incoming UGA students and transfer students:

As an undergraduate student, you do not submit a separate application to the Computer Science Department. Instead, simply list "Computer Science" as your desired major when you submit the UGA Admission application form.

Existing UGA students:

To switch your major to Computer Science, just go to New College hall on North Campus, where the Franklin College offices are located. The process takes about a week to complete.

If you are unsure whether you want to switch to Computer Science, or need help estimating how long it will take you to finish your degree, contact Dan Everett at dme @ cs.uga.edu or 542-2749 for an evaluation appointment.

Intended and Official Computer Science Majors

Intended CS majors

If you have finished less than 60 semester hours, you will be initially classified as an "Intended CSCI" major (I-CSCI). I-CSCI majors are advised and cleared at Franklin College.

Official CS majors

You will become an "official CS major" (CSCI) when you have made it through the two "gateway" courses:
       CSCI 1302
       CSCI 2610
--you must earn a C or better in each of these courses.

At that time we will assign you a CS faculty advisor.

If you are through the gateway courses and are not listed on this list, contact Dan Everett at dme @ cs.uga.edu.
