Requirements for Theses and Dissertations Directed by Me

The student's Masters Thesis or Doctoral Dissertation should be written in
Manuscript Form
unless otherwise agreed upon.
This option encourages greater conciseness and higher quality.

The main portion of the thesis/dissertation will consist of,
-
for M.S., one article already submitted to a journal for publication.

for Ph.D., two articles already submitted to journals for publication.

The thesis/dissertation must be submitted to the graduate school electronically
(see the
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Site
for details).

I must receive the following:
-
a complete set of thesis source files (acceptable formats are .doc or .tex/.eps),
-
a PDF (Portable Document Format) version of the thesis suitable for placing on the Web,
-
the PowerPoint (.ppt) slides used in the talk,
-
an archive file (.tar) containing all project source code files,
-
complete hypertext-based documentation (e.g., javadoc generated),
-
a User's Guide indicating how to install and use the software, and
-
an e-mail message giving sufficient future contact information.

If corrections are necessary after the defense, I must receive e-mail
notifications from all committee members before final approval.

All papers and theses/dissertations must be original work.

Tools to avoid plagiarism.

Tools to avoid self-plagiarism.
Exception: a conference paper may be updated and extended as part of
a journal article, so long as the article contains a majority of new material.
Must be duly noted in journal submission.
