Academic Integrity
  • Cheating is not tolerated in any of my classes.
  • You are allowed to discuss the programming assignments with other students. However, these must be general discussions. You can talk over general principles and concepts about an assignment with others, but sharing of printed or electronic media is not acceptable.
  • Any duplication, even one line of code, is a violation of the academic honesty policy.
  • If you have any doubts about what you are doing, ask me.
  • I will report all cheating incidents to the appropriate authorities. The punishment, if you are found guilty, carries with it a minimum of a failing grade on the assignment and course.
  • Note that copying materials from the Web is a violation of academic honesty.
  • Note that unfamiliarity with the rules and regulations of the academic honesty environment will not be grounds for leniency.
  • It is your responsibility to read this page and understand the context. Please talk to me if you need clarification.
  • Unless otherwise stated, programming assignments, lab assignments, and homework are to be strictly your own work.
  • Some common forms of academic dishonesty that students should guard against are:
    • Copying from another students' test paper or laboratory report, or allowing another student to copy from you.
    • Fabricating data (computer, statistical) for an assignment.
    • Helping another student to write a laboratory report or computer software code that the student will present as his/her own work, or accepting such help and presenting the work as your own.
    • Turning in material from a public source such as a book or the Internet as your own work.
Standards for English
All written work submitted must meet the Standards for English I. Poorly written papers will be returned to you without a grade for revision. Students are encouraged to utilize the Center for Teaching and Learning for help in polishing their papers.
Late Assignments
  • All assignments are due on a specific day and time unless otherwise noted.
  • If your assignment is even one second late, it's late, without exception.
  • If you are sick and have appropriate documentation, always let me know as soon as you get sick.
  • I will not accept late assignment.
  • You must keep a backup of ALL submitted work. I will request you submit this copy.
Attendance
  • You are required to attend each lecture.
  • Whether you are in class or not, you are responsible for all material taught and assigned in class.
  • If you miss more than 3 lectures without a valid excuse, you will be dropped from the class automatically, or you will receive a grade decrease in your final grade.
  • You are responsible for all announcements that are made in class.
  • Make sure to visit the class site daily. Being absent is not an excuse.
  • Also, do not expect the web site to reflect everything we discuss in class - it is only an aid, a guide and a means of giving out information and/or instructions.
Makeup Policy
  • Makeup exams will be given only under severely extenuating circumstances.
CTL
  • The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), located in Beatty 402, offers FREE tutoring in a number of subjects from all departments, and is open Monday-Friday (Monday-Thursday in the evenings). You are encouraged to visit the CTL web site http://www.wit.edu/academics/resource to Make an Appointment if you need extra help with your courses.
Computer use during the lectures
  • I do not allow the use of laptops during my lectures.
  • If you need to use your computer during the lectures, you need to get permission. You should also make sure you sit at the back of the classroom.
  • One more thing, no food is allowed in classrooms or labs.
