Research

    Projects:

  • Multi-Agent Systems
    • Decision making: We have developed a new framework for individual decision-making in multi- agent settings, called Interactive POMDPs (I-POMDPs). I-POMDPs generalize POMDPs to multi-agent settings by combining it with concepts from game theory. I investigate the properties of this framework, develop exact and approximate solution methods including graphical models, and analyse equilibration within this framework. I collaborate with Adam Goodie Adam Goodie UGA, Piotr Gmytrasiewicz (Univ. of Illinois, Chicago) and Yifeng Zeng (Aalborg Univ., Denmark) on work in this area. (See publications and talks)

Current and past funding: AFOSR, UGA Research Foundation

  • Services Oriented Computing
    • Composition of Web Services: My research in this area investigates automatic composition of Web processes using Web services as the underlying components. I focus on planning, and in particular, decision-theoretic planning frameworks such as Markov decision processes and its generalizations. In the past, I have collaborated with Richard Goodwin (IBM Research) and Rama Akkiraju (IBM Research) on work in this area. (See publications and talks)

    • Adaptive Web Service Compositions: In this area, my research addresses the challenges of adapting Web processes to volatile and dynamic environments. In particular, my research focuses on maintaining the optimality of the Web processes in such realistic environments. I collaborate with Biplav Srivastava (IBM IRL), Amit Sheth (WSU), John Miller (UGA), and Kunal Verma (Accenture Labs) in this work. (See publications and talks)

Current and past funding: NIH, UGA Research Foundation

  • Semantic Web
    • Ontology Alignment: Ontologies are the foundation of the Semantic Web. Since ontologies are emerging in a decentralized manner, mapping similar concepts among ontologies that address similar domains, called alignment, is vital to allow the ontologies to be used in a consistent manner. My research involves developing probabilistic approaches for automatic ontology alignment. (See publications and talks)

Current and past funding: NIH, Microsoft SensorMap 2007
