A mix between online classes and immersive onsite in California, the program runs from June 4 to July 1 (Summer Short Session I) and incorporates experiential learning in one of the world’s top startup, tech hubs, Silicon Valley in San Francisco, California from June 7 - June 26. This program joins two other successful School of Computing Study Away programs — Oxford and Connect Abroad in London. Participants will complete CSCI 1900: Topics in Computing (1 credit) and CSCI 3030: Computing Ethics and Society (3 credits). The program includes site visits to major technology companies such as Amazon, Apple, Databricks, Google, Meta, NASA Ames Research Center, OpenAI, and Samsung Research. Students will also have opportunities to meet UGA alumni working in the region and learn about a range of computing-related careers and professional pathways. In addition to academic activities, the program incorporates visits focused on the Bay Area’s technology ecosystem — such as the Computer History Museum and Palo Alto. This combination of coursework, industry exposure, and regional exploration is designed to provide a broad view of the technological, cultural, and professional landscape of Silicon Valley.
