Our very own School of Computing Professor and Associate Director Dr. Lakshmish Ramaswamy with help from Assistant Professor Dr. In Kee Kim and Professor Dr. Suchendra Bhandarkar working with colleagues within the University of Georgia on a new tool to aid first-responders from Climate Change called GeoAI.

This project by Dr. Wang aims to develop innovative techniques to advance dynamic binary translation--a fundamental technology that powers a wide range of essential applications. With these techniques, dynamic binary translation systems will be considerably modernized to keep up with the rapid evolution of computer software and hardware. This project will also assemble a series of teaching and mentoring activities to advocate a diverse and inclusive environment for computer science education.

The School of Computing would like to congratulate Professor Prashant Doshi on becoming the newest Senior Member of the Association for the Advancement of AI (AAAI). The Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) is the premier scientific society which are dedicated to advancing the scientific understanding of the mechanisms and intelligent behavior in machines.

Our very own School of Computing (SoC) Professor Perdisci (PI) is leading a multi-college team (which also includes Jin Sun (co-PI) and Le Guan (co-PI) from SoC) that won the 2023 Presidential Interdisciplinary Seed Grant titled: "Socio-Technical Solutions for Countering AI - Generated Deep Fakes".

These students created a social media app for sharing audio files using a combination of React.js, Firebase, and Express.js! Users can sign up, post, follow, and react to other user's posts.

Congratulations to Dr. Michael E. Cotterell, a senior lecturer in the School of Computing, for being one of 16 new members inducted into the University of Georgia’s Teaching Academy on November 9, 2023! The UGA Teaching Academy was established in the Fall of 1999 as a forum to discuss, celebrate and promote teaching excellence.

An article published by TheRed&Black, UGA and Athens' non-profit news source, is about the School of Computing's own Research Day! The article goes into great detail about Dr. Essa's keynote speech and gives a nice summarized account of the rest of the events that happened on Research day. We would like to give thanks to Doctors Aprinar, Ramaswamy and Agrawal for creating and hosting Research Day and thank you to all our students and faculty that showed and gave us their support. School of Computing is excited to be hosting a research day on November 17^th. We are incredibly excited to have Dr. Irfan Essa from Georgia Tech as our keynote speaker, whose talk is titled Generative and Responsible AI. We will also have 5 panelists for the panel on the topic of Role of AI In Higher Education. Other events include a trivia competition and a poster session featuring School’s own graduate and undergraduate students.

Profs. Ramviyas Parasuraman (PI) and Prashant Doshi (Co-PI) received a new grant from the U.S. Army Research Lab for the project titled "Cooperative Multi-Agent Systems". This is a 3-year grant with a $1.68 million budget. Under this project, the PIs will explore fundamental research in enabling autonomous robots and AI agents to form a cooperative team with robust localization, decision-making, and learning algorithms under adversarial scenarios.

Keeping up with our recent students trips, a group of graduate students undertook a visit to Microsoft's Atlanta headquarters last week, with a primary focus on gaining valuable insights into the latest developments in the field of technology. During the visit, graduate students engaged in informative presentations and discussions with Microsoft professionals. The experience as a whole allowed our graduates to deepen their understanding of the current trends and innovations within the technology sector and continue to make connections within the professional networking.
